Desktop clock for Windows 11 and 10

The tiny digits in the corner of the taskbar are hard to read, and a beautiful desktop without the time looks empty. Below: how to put a big clock right on the wallpaper, with your own layout, font, colour, shadow, seconds and date, and no extra windows.

What the clock widget does

The clock in Vealo lives on the wallpaper, not in a window: it sits under program windows and stays out of the way, and on an empty desktop it is fully visible.

  • Big. Scale from 40 to 300 percent: the time reads from the sofa, not only from half a metre away.
  • Your look. Four layouts, Grand, Skyline, Line and Stack, and fourteen display fonts, from strict to pixel and neon.
  • Your details. Seconds, 12 or 24 hour format, shadow, opacity and the language of the day and month captions.
  • In the theme colour. The colour follows the app theme, or you pick your own with an on-screen eyedropper to match the wallpaper.

How to add it in Vealo

The widget turns on with one button and lands on the desktop right away.

  1. Open Studio: the panel hotkey, Ctrl+Shift+F by default, or click an empty spot on the desktop and then the gear.
  2. The Widgets tab, the Clock row: pick any layout instead of “Off”.
  3. Pick a layout and a font, turn on seconds or the 12-hour format if you want them.
  4. Moving: with the mouse while the Widgets tab is open, or Shift plus the right mouse button at any moment, even with the panel closed. The position is remembered.
Tip: if the digits blend into the picture, turn on the shadow and soften the wallpaper with the filter rather than changing the wallpaper.

Views and settings

Everything you can adjust on the clock lives in one row of Studio.

  • Layouts: Grand, big digits with the date underneath; Skyline, a wide arrangement; Line, time and date in one row; Stack, hours above minutes.
  • Font: fourteen display fonts (Fine, Elounda, Inoma, Anurati, Anime, Atmos, Glitch, Lumia, Space, Motor, Pixar, Morden, Cyber, Halfo), scale from 40 to 300 percent.
  • Seconds, 12 or 24 hours, a shadow under the digits, opacity.
  • Caption language: the weekday and month in any language from the list, independent of the Windows language. Display fonts know only Latin letters and digits; captions in other alphabets use the base font.
  • Colour from the theme or your own with the eyedropper. Unlike the other widgets, the clock has no materials: its character comes from the layout and the font.
  • Free: the widget itself with the Grand layout. The other layouts and fonts are part of Pro.

Tips

  • Size by distance: 150 percent is enough for a monitor on a desk, for a TV across the room go 250 and up.
  • The font sets the mood more than the colour: Pixar and Glitch for gaming wallpapers, Fine and Lumia for calm ones, Anime for anime.
  • Seconds look good on a minimal desktop with the clock alone. Next to the weather and calendar it is better to turn them off so the eye does not twitch.

Questions

Will the clock sit on top of windows?

No. The widget lies on the wallpaper, under program windows. It is visible on an empty desktop and when windows are minimised, and it does not get in the way.

Can I put the clock on the second monitor?

Yes. The widget can be dragged to any screen, and the position is remembered per monitor.

Does the clock load the computer?

No. The widget redraws only the digits once a second when seconds are on, otherwise once a minute.

How do I remove the clock?

The same button in the Widgets section. The settings are kept, and when you turn it back on the clock returns to its place.
