What the notes widget does
Notes in Vealo are a widget on the wallpaper, not a window. They are visible while the desktop is empty and stay out of the way when programs are open.
- Boxes on the desktop. A task is closed with a click right on the widget, without opening the editor.
- Five views. Sticker, checklist, line, focus and progress: from the full list to one current task.
- The editor is next door. Double-click the widget to open the list editor in the panel, where tasks are added and reordered.
- Private stays private. Note text never travels into Workshop setups or profile codes. Only the widget's look goes out.
How to add it in Vealo
The widget turns on with a button, the list is edited in the panel.
- Open Studio: the panel hotkey, Ctrl+Shift+F by default, or click an empty spot on the desktop and then the gear.
- The Widgets tab, the Notes row: pick any view instead of “Off”.
- Pick a view and type the first tasks in the editor. A double-click on the widget opens it at any time.
- Moving: with the mouse while the Widgets tab is open, or Shift plus the right mouse button at any moment, even with the panel closed. The position is remembered.
Views and settings
Five views for different habits.
- Sticker: the whole list on a coloured backdrop, like a paper sticky note on the monitor.
- Checklist: lines with boxes, done items are struck through.
- Line and focus: show one current task; a click closes it and shows the next.
- Progress: a completion bar with the list underneath.
- Like the other widgets except the clock: five materials (soft, torn, glitch, pixel, wire), colour from the theme or your own with an eyedropper, backdrop and outline, its own size slider. More in the features reference.
- Free: Sticker and Checklist. The other three are part of Pro.
Tips
- Keep the list short: three to five tasks for today. The focus view shows one current task and keeps the list from sprawling across the desktop.
- The sticker is good for “do not forget”: one or two lines that should stare at you until they are done.
- Progress motivates: the bar grows with every tick, and by the evening you can see how much is closed.
All six widgets in one article: Desktop widgets for Windows. Ready desktops with widgets are in the Steam Workshop.
Questions
Where are the notes stored?
In the Vealo settings folder on your computer. Nothing goes to the cloud, no account is needed.
Are my notes visible in a setup I publish?
No. Only the widget's look goes into the setup file, the text stays with you. The Workshop card shows an empty sample instead of your tasks.
Can I have several lists?
One widget, one list. For different tasks the focus view with the current task plus the full list in the editor works best.
How do I tick a box?
Click the circle next to the task right on the desktop. In the line and focus views a click on the task closes it and shows the next one.
What else can Vealo do?
Quite a lot. It hides the desktop icons and opens everything from a panel, sets wallpapers and video wallpapers, adds widgets (clock, weather, calendar, notes, system load, player), desktop effects, lighting in the theme colour, cursors, and ready-made looks from the Steam Workshop. The full list is on the features page.
