What the weather widget does
The widget shows the weather for your city right on the desktop and does not drag news, ads or extra windows along with it.
- City by itself. Detected automatically, nothing to type in.
- More than degrees. Temperature, feels-like temperature and a forecast for the coming days.
- Its own icons. Hand-drawn weather icons in the widget's style, not stock pictures from a browser.
- Five views. Card, Line, Today, Hourly and Week: from a detailed forecast to a single line, so the widget takes exactly as much room as you give it.
How to add it in Vealo
Turns on with one button, the city fills in by itself.
- Open Studio: the panel hotkey, Ctrl+Shift+F by default, or click an empty spot on the desktop and then the gear.
- The Widgets tab, the Weather row: pick any view instead of “Off”.
- Pick a view: the card with a forecast or the compact line.
- Moving: with the mouse while the Widgets tab is open, or Shift plus the right mouse button at any moment, even with the panel closed. The position is remembered.
Views and settings
Five views to choose from, the rest is the same as for every widget.
- Card: temperature, feels-like, description and a forecast for the coming days.
- Line: one temperature with an icon, for a minimal desktop.
- Today, Hourly and Week: more about the current day, the temperature by the hour, or the forecast for the week.
- Feels-like temperature and the weather in words: clear, partly cloudy, rain, storm, fog.
- Like the other widgets except the clock: five materials (soft, torn, glitch, pixel, wire), colour from the theme or your own with an eyedropper, backdrop and outline, its own size slider. More in the features reference.
- Free: Card and Line. The other three are part of Pro.
Tips
- The card with a forecast wants a wide desktop; the line sits nicely next to the clock in the left column.
- The Hourly view is handy in the morning: you can see when the rain arrives and whether to take an umbrella.
- Colour from the theme makes the weather icons part of the look: when the theme or setup changes, they recolour by themselves.
All six widgets in one article: Desktop widgets for Windows. Ready desktops with widgets are in the Steam Workshop.
Questions
Does the widget know where I am?
The city is detected automatically, down to the city. The widget does not ask for location permission.
Does the weather travel into Workshop setups?
No. When a setup is published the city stays with the author; on the subscriber's PC the widget detects their own city.
How often does the forecast refresh?
By itself, several times an hour. Nothing to press.
What else can Vealo do?
Quite a lot. It hides the desktop icons and opens everything from a panel, sets wallpapers and video wallpapers, adds widgets (clock, weather, calendar, notes, system load, player), desktop effects, lighting in the theme colour, cursors, and ready-made looks from the Steam Workshop. The full list is on the features page.
