Falling Leaves, Snow and Rain on Your Desktop

Five effects, and each one behaves in its own way instead of just swapping the picture.

• Leaves. They spin in the air, sway in the wind and fall at different speeds. In autumn this is the most popular pick.
• Snow. Slow flakes of different sizes. On dark wallpaper it looks like real snowfall outside the window.
• Rain. Fast streaks tilted by the wind, and drops that linger on the screen for a moment.
• Embers. They rise from the bottom edge and flicker. Made for a fireplace, fire, sunset or neon.
• Lightning. A separate toggle. Works alone, without particles, or on top of any of them. Strikes right when you turn it on, then with pauses of 9-35 seconds, like a real thunderstorm.

Everything lives in the Effects tab, the EFFECT row. Nothing needs to be installed separately.

1. Install Vealo from Steam, open the panel and click the gear: that is the Studio.
2. The Effects tab, the EFFECT row: Leaves, Snow, Rain or Embers. The particles appear right away, no restart needed.
3. Next to them is the Lightning toggle. Turn it on and wait a second: the first strike comes immediately.
4. To remove them, click Off in the same row.

Rain is part of the free version. Snow, leaves, embers and lightning unlock in Pro, but you can try each one: click a locked chip and the effect runs for real on your desktop for five seconds.

Below the effect row there are three sliders and a color row. They change the live particles without recreating them.

• DENSITY: how many particles are on screen. A third is enough for leaves, snow looks best at half, rain at maximum.
• SPEED: from a lazy drift to a downpour. Below one makes it calmer, above one livelier.
• WIND: tilts the flow to the left or right. Whatever blows past the edge comes back from the other side, so the flow crosses the whole screen instead of piling up against one wall.
• Color: Theme paints the particles in your theme's accent, or pick your own color. Snow and embers have their own native shades.
• SCREEN: on two monitors you can put snow on one and leaves on the other, or leave All.

The particles are drawn by a separate process, and the layer sits below windows and above the wallpaper. While you work, it runs in the background and never touches your program windows.

• Game mode is on by default: as soon as a game or video goes full screen, the particles freeze on every monitor and hand the graphics card over completely.
• Close or minimize the game window, and the particles continue from where they stopped.
• At maximum there are 220 raindrops, 160 snowflakes, 46 leaves or 90 embers on screen. For a graphics card that is pocket change; the main cost is the transparent full-monitor layer, and it is the same for every effect.
