Cursors for Windows 11 and 10: how to change your cursor and install a pack

The cursor is always on screen, so it decides how polished your desktop looks. Below are four ways: built-in Windows settings, custom shapes in any color, your own file or pack, and ready-made packs. Hover over the preview and pick a pack: the cursor changes right here.

Built in: pointer size and color

In Windows 11 and 10 you can make the cursor bigger and recolor it in a single color without any apps.

  1. Open Settings, go to Accessibility, then Mouse pointer and touch.
  2. Pick a style: white, black, inverted or Custom with any color.
  3. The Size slider makes the pointer bigger.

That is enough to make the cursor easier to see, but the shape stays the standard arrow.

Custom shapes in any color

The Cursor tab has nine built-in shapes, from the classic arrow to pixel 3D. Each one can be recolored to match your desktop.

  • Fill: six preset colors or any color you like.
  • Outline: auto, white, black or your own color, so the cursor stands out on any wallpaper.
  • Theme: the cursor recolors itself along with the theme. Switch the theme, and it already has the new color.
  • Size: a slider up to 2.5 times the standard size, with no blur.

The arrow and the comet are free, the other shapes are in Pro. The Restore default cursor button brings back the standard Windows cursor.

Your own cursor or a downloaded pack

Found a nice cursor or a whole .cur and .ani pack online? In Vealo you don't need to install it through the Control Panel.

  1. In the Cursor tab, click the tile with the plus and pick a single .cur or .ani file.
  2. Or click the tile with the folder and choose the whole pack folder.
  3. Vealo sorts the files into roles on its own (normal, busy, text, link and the rest) and sets the cursor right away.
The files are copied to the Vealo folder, so you can delete the downloaded folder afterwards. Your own cursors and packs are part of Pro.

FAQ

How do I change the mouse cursor in Windows 11?

Built in: Settings, Accessibility, Mouse pointer and touch, where you set the style, color and size. For a different shape, pick a shape or a ready-made pack in the Cursor tab in Vealo.

How do I install a downloaded cursor pack?

In Vealo, choose the pack folder (the folder tile in the Cursor tab) or a single .cur or .ani file (the plus tile). The app sorts the files into roles and sets the cursor on its own.

What is the difference between .cur and .ani files?

A .cur file is a regular cursor, and .ani is animated, like a spinning busy cursor. Vealo supports both formats.

How many cursors does Vealo have?

Nine built-in shapes in any color and 20 ready-made packs, plus your own files and packs. The arrow and the comet are free, everything else is part of Pro.

Can I make the cursor bigger?

Yes. In Windows with the Size slider, and in Vealo with the size slider up to 2.5 times the standard size, for both shapes and packs.
