Razer lighting in your desktop colour

Razer is the easiest brand of all: with Synapse installed, Vealo picks up the keyboard, mouse and mousepad right away, no setup. If you do not keep Synapse, the free OpenRGB gives the same result. Below are both paths and one rule: only one of them may be in charge.

Path one: Synapse is already installed

Vealo talks to Razer devices through the Chroma SDK that comes with Synapse. Nothing to install or configure.

  1. Make sure Razer Synapse is installed and running, it sits in the tray.
  2. Open Vealo, the Lighting tab, press Sync. Razer devices show up in the status line.
  3. Pick an effect. By default the colour comes from the desktop theme.

Turn sync off and the devices return to your Synapse profile as if nothing happened. If Synapse has not come up yet after signing in to Windows, Vealo connects by itself once it appears.

Path two: without Synapse, through OpenRGB

For those who do not want to keep Synapse around. OpenRGB is free and knows most Razer devices, check yours in the field below.

  1. Download OpenRGB from openrgb.org, install it, and in Settings, General Settings tick Start At Login, Start Minimized and Start Server.
  2. In Vealo's Lighting tab turn on the Razer via OpenRGB chip and press Sync.
  3. A device is missing, press Find devices, OpenRGB rescans the hardware.

Only one of the paths. If Synapse is running and OpenRGB drives the same device too, two streams of commands with different LED layouts hit it and the lighting turns into a strobe. Vealo accounts for this: while the Synapse channel is alive it leaves Razer devices alone in OpenRGB.

Effects, colour and brightness

All of it lives in the Lighting tab and applies to every connected device at once.

  1. Eleven effects: static, breathing, wave, checker, spectrum, fire, reactive to key presses, ripple, starlight, rain and shimmer.
  2. Colour from the theme or your own through the eyedropper. Colour swap and brightness swap make an effect stand out, Base glow sets the light under the effect.
  3. The Brightness slider is shared by everything, at night a third is usually enough.
  • Follows the theme. With the lighting colour set to the theme, change the theme or the wallpaper and the Razer lighting recolours itself.
  • Works right away. With Synapse installed there are no settings, servers or ports.
  • Every brand in one tab. Razer through Synapse, and Corsair, Logitech, SteelSeries and the motherboard through OpenRGB, one effect and one colour.
  • Free to try. Static and breathing are part of the free version, the other nine effects are unlocked by Pro.

Questions

Razer lighting flickers and breaks up.

Synapse and OpenRGB are running at the same time and both drive the device. Keep one: either close OpenRGB, or turn Synapse off and enable the Razer via OpenRGB chip in Vealo.

Vealo does not see the Razer devices.

Check that Synapse is running and its Chroma module is on. Without Synapse, enable the Razer via OpenRGB chip and make sure Start Server is ticked in OpenRGB.

Does the lighting go back to the old one when I turn sync off?

Yes. When sync is turned off Vealo closes the session and the devices return to your Synapse profile.

Can I set my own colour instead of the theme colour?

Yes. In the Lighting tab pick a colour with the eyedropper, it stays until you switch the theme colour back on.

Which effects are free?

Static and breathing. Wave, checker, spectrum, fire, reactive, ripple, starlight, rain and shimmer are unlocked by Vealo Pro.

What else can Vealo do?
