Live wallpaper for Windows 11 and 10

Putting a video on the desktop is easy. Making it look good and stay out of the way is the hard part.

• Seamless loop. mp4 and mov videos (H.264 and HEVC) loop with no pause and no black frame at the seam.
• Pause in games. While a game or any full-screen window covers the desktop, the video stops and doesn't use your GPU.
• Hardware decoding. Video up to 4K is decoded by the graphics card, so the CPU stays almost idle. A video wider than 4096 pixels is scaled down to 4K by Vealo once.
• Free. Video wallpaper and the Workshop are part of the free version of Vealo.

Any video in mp4, mov, m4v, avi or wmv works. A short 10-30 second clip made for looping works best.

1. Install Vealo from Steam, open the panel, go to the Wallpapers tab and the Mine section.
2. Click the plus and pick a video. The clip is copied to your wallpaper folder and starts playing on the desktop right away.
3. Or open the video in the panel's built-in viewer, right-click and choose Set as wallpaper.

The image that was under the video doesn't go anywhere: turn the video off, and it comes back.

The Steam Workshop inside Vealo has plenty of setups with a video inside the file.

1. In the Workshop tab, set the type filter to Live wallpaper.
2. On the card, click Wallpaper only: the video goes on your desktop, while your widgets, theme and cursor stay your own.
3. Want the author's whole desktop? Click Apply. Undo cancels the try-on.

Preview them in your browser first: live wallpapers on our site. You can share your own video the same way: save your desktop as a setup and publish it, and a video up to 2 GB travels inside the file.

In the Effects tab, some effects work on video too, not just on images.

• Parallax: the video gains depth and follows the mouse.
• Glitch: strips of the frame tear sideways, and now and then a shift line runs across. Rare, medium or often.
• VHS: grain and jittery lines, like an old tape.
• Mirror in the Wallpapers tab flips video too.

Everything is in the same Wallpapers tab, above the gallery.

• Screen chips: All puts the video on every monitor, a screen number puts it only on that one. Each monitor can have its own video.
• The Speed slider goes from 0.25 to 2: for a calm background, half speed is usually enough.
• The Game mode switch: while the screen is covered by a game or a full-screen window, the video is paused. Turn it off, and the video will always play.
